Atlanta's own Michael Smith Boyd!!!

Atlanta has become a second home to me. I am always impressed with its design influences and inspirations. I'm a Maryland native but I have big LUV for ATL.
I was introduced to Michael Boyd's designs from my mentor Kimberly Ward's, "Pink Egg Shell" blog. Needless to say his designs are phenomenal. His luscious layers of luxurious designs make you want to more. You might have caught some of his designs while watching "Housewives of Atlanta". He designed the ever so stylish Marlo Hampton's home. Take a look. The pictures speak for them self.

Living in an apartment doesn’t mean you have to skimp on the design.  I see far too many bare walls and lack luster wall art that don’t do anything for the rooms decor. Bring in colors, patterns and/or geometric shapes to make you fall in love with it. Ok. I wont talk you to death.  Just check out these items to turn your drab walls into something super fab.  Best part about it, you can do it yourself.

Dorm Room Decor

Now that high school is behind you, you must be prepared to go to college in more ways than one.  Those drab dorm rooms can feel cold and scary but you must turn it into your personal oasis.  Here are some key essentials to make sure your room represents you well.

Before you get started, do try to communicate with your roommates on  a common color or print for your dorm room.  Look for items that aren't costly because you may have a new roommate next year.  Ideas can be found on Pininterest and there are tons of items in stores like TJ Max, Walmart, Target, Ikea, and CB2.

Personal Essentials

Make sure you come equipped with your personal bathing essentials.  Get a shower caddy to hold your matching towel and wash cloth set with your favorite soaps and smell goods.  Don't forget about a robe and shower shoes.

Organization

Extra storage is a must so that you can try to stay organized.  Whether is it cubbies, ottomans with storage or bookshelves it will be a necessity.  Cubbies and bookshelves can even serve as a room divider for you and your roommate.

Desk Accessories

Get your staplers, hole punchers, laptop holders, desk lamps and other needs so that you will be equipped with what you need to get started on the right foot.

Throw Rugs

It has been a minute since my college days. I hated to put my feet on the cold floor so a throw rug will solve that issue.  A throw rug is a nice added piece of decor to make your room feel in harmony with your roommates side of the room.

Wall Decor

Wall decals/applique, posters, and picture collages are an easy way to jazz up those unsightly walls.

Bed Linens
Make sure you have more than 1 pair of bed linens and dress your bed to your liking.  Add in some throw pillows of contrasting colors or prints and walla....

Room Dividers

If you are big on privacy you may want to incorporate a room divider by hanging beads, a curtain or just placing a tall bookshelf in a location to separate your side from your roommates side.

Window Dressings

Drapes, Shades and beads will do the trick but don't forget about window frosting.

Other Accessories

Lighting, picture frames, wall hooks, end tables are just a few of the many options you have to add a little spice to your room.
